Home Care

Derbyshire Care Services has been providing home care successfully and has maintained high standards since 2003. We have been a preferred provider with Derby City Council since 2008. We were given a specific area to provide home care services by the commissioning team, with packages being allocated to us by the brokerage team which were time-specific and outcome-focused. However, we have accommodated DCC to service packages in other parts of Derby City when other providers were unable to manage demand.

Derbyshire Care Services also work for NHS and Mental Health Services including the CCG.

We have the capacity and welcome requests from all organisations and individuals.

Our private client service is growing rapidly alongside Direct Payments/Personal Budgets in line with Government initiative of enabling people with a disability to have more choice and control.

Training

Our training and development policy outlines our overall commitments to providing staff with: Mandatory induction training to ensure safe, caring services from their first point of contact with Customers. Initial in-house training to furnish them with the skills required to support achievement of outcomes and provide personalised care. Our training is certified and aimed towards recognised qualifications. Existing staff are required to participate in refresher training to keep skills up-to-date. We offer ongoing opportunities for development.

Training for care staff is not just undertaken at the start of employment. Following their training all care workers are accompanied by experienced care staff who monitor their practice and confidence. Only when we are satisfied with their performance will the worker be allowed to work alone.

Where we notice a care worker is lacking in confidence or skills to do their job with high standards, we immediately enrol them on an appropriate training programme. Where we find the employee to be unsuitable for a care worker role despite receiving support and training we end their employment within their probationary period.   All our staff are required to complete a rigorous vetting and training procedure before joining Derbyshire Care Services, including face to face interview. A minimum of two references are taken and checked. In addition to this all our staff are required to satisfy a DBS check which identifies any past criminal record the potential applicant may have. Safeguarding in a person centred approach is threaded throughout every element of induction training, including equality and diversity, personalisation, dignity and respect. Inductees are briefed on how to recognise signs of abuse, exploitation, and vulnerability amongst people at risk of harm, neglect and exploitation in the community. The purpose of the dedicated safeguarding module is to provide Care Workers with the skills and knowledge necessary to recognise and respond appropriately and in a timely manner when they identify an adult at risk of harm/abuse.

Assessment and Planning StagesAt the start of each package, a manager or supervisor will meet, face-to-face, the Customer and any members of their circle of support whom they wish to be present. Our team can communicate in a range of languages including Punjabi, Urdu, Hindi, Gujarati, and Polish. We will discuss the Customer’s specific needs via an informal friendly discussion. we will gain a detailed understanding of the elements of day-to-day life with which the Customer requires assistance. This incorporates medication and manual handling risk assessments. Identifying their aspirations is crucial to our outcome-focused approach. Customers’ outcomes vary widely from person to person, but are underpinned by principles such as reablement, regaining skills and confidence, becoming active members of the community, experiencing improved quality of life and becoming healthier. The Customer’s own outcomes towards which they would like to work are recorded for inclusion in their care plan.Determining how they would like to be supported with their needs. Our Customers are worked with, not worked on, and they and their carers are wholly involved in agreeing the ways in which their needs will be met. Specifically, we take a just enough approach, whereby Care Workers allow Customers to retain control and independence. The support offered enables Customers to maintain their ability to manage their own needs without becoming reliant on paid support.

DeliveryCare Workers will then collaborate with Customers and their circle of support throughout the package, delivering care directly from the care and support plan. At every point of contact, our services will therefore remain personalised, and will support the Customer’s progress towards what they want to achieve, which is recorded every day in log books.Review Reviews are conducted at a frequency based on the individual’s risk level, with care plans updated to remain up-to-date and relevant to evolving needs. The customer and their representative are able to give feedback on goals achieved and any area of provision requiring improvement. The registered manager’s review of daily log books and the achievement of targets will also highlight opportunities to develop packages, promoting an ongoing focus on outcomes.
